Depuis 1979, Geoffrey B. Small s’est employé sans relâche à élever l’art et la science de la confection artisanale de vêtements. En 2003, il a fondé le salon Area Paris pour répondre aux besoins des designers indépendants. Il a ainsi permis de présenter plus de 57 designers indépendants du monde entier, avec plus de 170 présentations de collections individuelles à Paris au plus haut niveau. Il a été le pionnier de nombreuses tendances mondiales en matière de design, notamment la mode recyclée, le streetwear des créateurs, les mouvements de style napoléonien et médiéval et ses nouvelles conceptions radicales du changement climatique.
Il estime que les vêtements de qualité, ainsi que les personnes et les techniques qui les sous-tendent doivent être valorisés et que les intérêts des entreprises mondiales à court terme sont devenus beaucoup trop dominants dans la mode. Au contraire, il insiste sur le fait que “la mode est un art et doit être utilisée pour améliorer la qualité du design – ne pas la baisser, dire la vérité sur le monde – ne pas mentir à ce sujet et faire de son mieux pour rendre la vie meilleure pour tous – pas seulement quelques élites. ”
Il est lauréat du prix Designerama 2005 de MTV Allemagne pour la mode masculine, des “Next Great Designer Awards” ILGWU Americas de 1979 et 1980 (les plus grands concours de design en Amérique du Nord), du grand prix international Zipp-in de la ville de New York de 1980, du 1982 Cassina Milan / Lammhulske Suède Prix international Arango pour la conception de meubles et autres.
En 1993, il est salué par Pierre Berge comme l’un des seuls designers américains “avec un vrai talent” et devient le premier designer américain à présenter une collection d’avant-garde à Paris et le 3ème américain de l’histoire officiellement reconnu par la Chambre française. Syndicale. En 1995, il a présenté à Paris la première collection de mode de recyclage pour hommes au monde, où il a présenté un record de plus de 70 collections d’avant-garde, couvertes dans plus de 800 publications de mode dans le monde, dont le prestigieux “Young European Designers” publié dans un livre en 2007. Les clients ont inclus les légendaires top model Veruschka, Winona Ryder, Halle Berry et David Beckham. En 2006, Geoffrey B. Small a reçu une commande spéciale de Louis Vuitton Japan pour la conception et la fabrication de mini-collections de sacs de cuir et de vêtements de sport recyclés uniques pour son penthouse Celux à Tokyo. Ses collections ont été photographiées par Karl Lagerfeld à Paris pour Numero Homme.
Small maintient l’une des distributions les plus serrées du secteur, avec pas plus de 10 marchands dans le monde autorisés à vendre ses œuvres, et une production limitée à un maximum de 400 pièces fabriquées à la main pour le monde par saison.
