Firstly, as with many others, human collective culture remains an endless source of inspiration for Jan-Jan Van Essche to create new clothes. Consequently each new design constituting a genuine attempt to open up new perspectives and advance contradictory dialogues.
For each series of clothing, traditional patterns from different ethnocultural origins are carefully studied and then interpreted. In the language of the designer’s individual pattern, we speak of the poetry of simplicity.
Jan-Jan Van Essche primarily chooses to remove all possible stitching and minimize detail and cultural overtones. While maximizing wearer comfort and thus providing an experience that works from the inside out. Unlike the classic Western approach of confining and shaping the body, Jan-Jan offers the body the luxury and freedom to shape the garment. His sincere and understated designs are executed in fine, quality and refined natural fiber fabrics. As a result, which contribute to awareness and spirit.
Contributing to this story of minimizing anecdotal connotations, some fabrics remain undyed or even in the state of a loom. The colors are rather in the muted palette and black with its infinite nuances is always present to rigorously accentuate the silhouettes.
Above all, Jan-Jan Van Essche continually seeks to develop new ideas on masculine and unisex elegance. Both contemporary and effortless. In other words, the pieces are subtly stacked, integrated into modern city life and personal wardrobes. Slowly and cautiously playing their humble role in finding connection and acceptance. Most importantly, they see no boundaries, no limitations, no restrictions, no exclusions. To sum up, the conventional silhouette is amplified and each garment literally let place for interpretation, which creates openness.
