Rick Owens, born 1962, is an American fashion designer recognized as one of the last to perpetuate the minimalist and “anti-fashion” movement of the 1990s. That is to say, he transforms his gloomy, post-apocalyptic glamor take on grunge gothic into a world famous fashion company. Built largely around its leather jackets. In addition, besides its main line, Owens owns a furniture line, and several distribution lines. Drkshdw, Rickowenslilies and Hunrickowens. And also creates collections for Revillon.
Further, Owens burst into the top echelons of the industry after French Vogue posted an image of Kate Moss wearing one of his leather jackets. After that Owens was able to capitalize on this momentum with the help of Anna Wintour and American Vogue. The publication sponsored his first runway show during the Spring / Summer 2002 New York Fashion Week. Subsequently, he also began his long collaboration with stylist Panos Yiapanis in 2001. To date, Yiapanis has worked on each of Owens’ presentations.
In 2002, Rick Owens became artistic director of Revillon, the French fur company founded in 1723. Likewise, working and producing in Europe led him to move from Los Angeles to Paris and exhibit during the Parisian collections.
Most importantly, the designer has been awarded the CFDA twice, the first with the New Talent Award in 2002 after his debut runway show in New York City. And again in 2017, with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. He also received the Perry Ellis Emerging Talent Award from the Fashion Designers Council of the United States. Which he won in 2002. As well as the National Cooper-Hewitt Design Award and the Rule Breaking Award from the Fashion Group International. Awarded in 2007.
To sum up, Owens is married to Michèle Lamy, his muse and business partner.
